A critic of Auckland's port says it should be behaving like a business

It has just abandoned its controversial automation project, after spending 65-million dollars and eight years on the rollout.

Mayoral candidate Wayne Brown says the Ports should be returning 400-million dollars a year, instead of its current zilch.

And he says it should pay properly for its downtown site, and sensible things will happen when they're forced to pay for where they are.
