A warning dog attacks aren't always down to the breed, with cases rising in Auckland

Nearly 3000 were reported in Auckland over the last financial year, well up from 2000 five years ago.

The Council's prosecuted more than 611 owners since 2020.

Dog Safe Workplace Director, Jo Clough says breeds like pitbulls with strong bites, tend to cause more injuries.

But she says every dog shows the same behaviour when annoyed, like stress yawns and turning away.
