A house fire in North Canterbury overnight is being treated as suspicious

Fire and Emergency say multiple vehicles responded to a well involved blaze on Candy Crescent in Kaiapoi at 2am.

The occupants were waiting outside and one patient transported to Christchurch Hospital in moderate condition.

Crews extinguished the blaze at 4am, but returned to another flare up at 6am.

A fire investigator remains on site.
