A child's been hit by a car on on Christchurch's Ferry Road, in Woolston, and is seriously injured

A child's been hit by a car on on Christchurch's Ferry Road, in Woolston, and is seriously injured

Emergency services have been at the scene since about 8.40.

The Herald's Jazlyn Whales says it appears a white hatchback leaving a driveway may have hit the child.

She says a neighbour told her children always head to school along the busy road - and she heard yelling this morning.

Whales says the neighbour told her she was worried as a parent, with accidents becoming more common.
