Police say they're satisfied with the sentence imposed on the man who lit the fatal fire at Wellington's Loafers Lodge, killing five

Esarona Lologa has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum none parole period of 22 years.

Over the course of a five week trial earlier this year, more than 100 witnesses appeared, including former residents, first responders and transcripts were read out from 111 calls.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch says people are happy to be able to close this chapter.

He says justice has been served and both the families and his officers are pleased with the outcome.
