Child rescued after walking along elevated monorail track at Pennsylvania theme park

A young boy was safely rescued at a Pennsylvania theme park after he was seen walking along an elevated monorail.

A young boy has been rescued while walking alone on the track of an elevated ride at Pennsylvania's Hersheypark theme park after becoming separated from his parents.

The video, which has circulated online, shows a child standing on the track of a monorail walking back and forth.

Panicked onlookers could be heard trying to guide the boy to a nearby roof where a park guest was waiting to grab him.

Eventually, the park guest climbed onto the rail and carried the boy down safely.

The boy was reported missing by his parents about 5pm, local time, and while crews looked for him, he entered a "secured area" for the monorail ride, Hersheypark said in a statement.

"The ride was closed and safeguarded by a chained closure at the entrance and barricaded turnstile at the platform," the statement read.

According to Hersheypark, the child was not harmed and was reunited with his family about 20 minutes after he was reported missing.

"We are grateful for the vigilance of our guests and the swift response of our team, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest levels of guest safety throughout the park."

The incident follows the death of a nine-year-old girl in the wave pool just weeks earlier at the theme park.
