Kiwis travelling to parts of Asia could face Covid-style screening measures - after cases of the deadly Nipah  virus

Two cases of the virus - which is passed from animals to humans, were detected in India.

With a mortality rate of up to 75 percent and no approved vaccine, Nipah is considered highly dangerous.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it's monitoring the situation - and is warning people to avoid bats and anything potentially contaminated by bats.

It says anyone feeling unwell, who's been to an area known to have an outbreak, should seek immediate medical advice.
