A reminder of key safety messages after a spate of road smashes

Trucks have lost loads in Waikato and Winton, a truck and three cars have collided in Palmerston North, and there have been other crashes in Opotiki and Tauranga.

Several people have serious injuries.

Brake NZ director Caroline Perry says motorists should avoid distractions, and ensure everyone's wearing a seatbelt.

She says they should be well-rested and take regular breaks.
