A scrub fire that started in Clarence near Kaikoura, has been contained

Fire and Emergency New Zealand were called to the scene just before 10 last night.

The fire site is around five to six hectares in size.

Shift manager Daryl Ball says they're not yet sure how the fire started.

He says teams are still on site this morning, dampening the site and they hope the forecast of rain will further assist their efforts.
