Police are reminding Wellington drivers not to get complacent ... following the SafeStart operation

Police are reminding Wellington drivers not to get complacent ... following the SafeStart operation

On Friday night and into the early hours of yesterday morning, police were stopping drivers across the region.

They were checking for those who may have been driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or who were tired or without seatbelts on.

The operation saw more than 1400 vehicles go through checkpoints, with just three infringements being issued to drivers with excess breath alcohol.

Superintendent Steve Greally says while the results of the operation were pleasing, Wellington must keep up the hard work.

He says heading into summer there will be more people on the roads, so even more reason to take care.
