    Thick plumes of black smoke has poured into the sky from a large building fire near Hokitika


    Fire and Emergency have been battling a blaze on the site of the old Seaview Hospital and asylum since just after seven this morning.

    A resident says the fire can be seen right around Hokitika and surrounding areas.

    Fire crews are expected to be at the scene for some time.
