Windy conditions look set to hang around, and pose a significant risk for fire affected areas

Crews are monitoring the sites of multiple blazes in Kaikoura and southern Hawke's Bay.

Five homes have been destroyed around the Kaikoura district, and State Highway 1 remains closed south of Blenheim.

MetService Meteorologist Thapi Makgabutlane says winds are set to pick up throughout the morning.

She says the fires won't need too much wind to keep going, and westerlies are continuing.

Power outages are still impacting thousands of homes in central regions, and flooding is affecting the Lewis Pass and several other South Island roads.
