A tax expert warns stripping GST from foods is a complicated way of helping up struggling New Zealanders

The policy is part of Te Pati Maori's proposed tax overhaul -- which includes new taxes for companies, the wealthy and landowners.
Earners making below 30-thousand-dollars would pay no tax on their income.
Findex's Jarod Chisholm says Australia tried to keep GST off some food products, when it first introduced the tax.
He says there was absolute absurdity over where the line sat, with raw chicken being exempt from GST but not cooked chicken.
