Support for an idea to help Northlanders bypass Covid checkpoint queues this summer

Police have confirmed on its Facebook page, that some locals will have the option to place special stickers on their vehicles, to let staff know they're from the area.

It'll be available for those who travel regularly on State Highway one at Uretiti or State Highway 12 near Maungaturoto, which is where the checkpoints will be from next Wednesday.

Whangarei Mayor Sheryl Mai says it's clever thinking.

Locals wanting to know if they're eligible, should head to the Northland Police Facebook page.

New Zealand recorded 95 new community cases yesterday -- 75 in Auckland, 11 in Waikato, five in the Bay of Plenty, one each in Lakes and Nelson-Tasman and two in Canterbury.
