    One person has died and five others have been injured in a crash on State Highway One south of Taupo


    It's the first death of the official Christmas Holiday road toll period...which began at 4 this afternoon and runs through until 6am on January 5.

    Emergency services were called to the two-car crash at Motutere at about 7.15 this evening.

    St John says one person has serious injures, two have moderate injuries and two others have minor injuries.
