Gisborne's Mayor says the situation there is still very serious

Gisborne's Mayor says the situation there is still very serious

The region has been inundated with rain in recent days, causing extensive damage to roads and properties.

Power is out in Ihungia, part of Tolaga, and Wai-mata Valley.

A heavy rain watch is in force for Gisborne and Wairoa until 6pm tomorrow.

Rehette Stoltz says most locals are still hunkering down at home, and the weather is making it difficult to restore power for some households.
