Hastings District Council was working on giving building consents a shake-up, before the Government put its ideas forward

Hastings District Council was working on giving building consents a shake-up, before the Government put its ideas forward

Building Minister Chris Penk's proposing, letting qualified tradies skip inspections for low-risk builds.

He's also suggesting offering streamlined consenting to businesses with a track record for big projects.

Hastings District Council CEO Nigel Bickle says the current consenting laws were a response to the leaky homes crisis.

He says there is a lot of opportunity to streamline processes - saving costs for customers and building firms
