Drivers are taking up the option of an escorted convoy through Otago's main route to the West Coast

State Highway 6's weather-damaged Haast Pass is closed while crews clear slips - with managed convoys to keep the workers safe from vehicles.

Waka Kotahi says 340 vehicles were escorted in two convoys yesterday.

After feedback, it's added a third escorted round trip convoy from today - leaving at 10am, midday and 2pm.

Overnight, traffic lights are operating between 4.30pm and 8am - with a single lane open.
