A slight slump for economies in the south

A slight slump for economies in the south

Otago's fallen to third place in ASB's Regional Economic Scoreboard - which rates regions based on year-on-year growth.

It had taken the crown for the last two quarters, but under-performing house sales and slowing construction growth, has impacted Otago's performance this quarter.

However, it remains a powerhouse due to Queenstown's robust tourism - and growth in employment.

Southland slipped four places, due to a decline in new car registrations, construction and employment.
