Two people are in a critical condition after a driver fleeing Police, crashed into another vehicle in Invercargill.

Police say they attempted to stop a vehicle on Venus Street in Georgetown about 1.40 this morning - but the driver did not stop, and Police did not pursue due to the manner of driving.

They say a short time later the vehicle went through the intersection of Janet and Ness Streets, colliding with the other vehicle and damaging a property.

One person in each vehicle received critical injuries, while one other in the fleeing vehicle was seriously injured.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the intersection between Janet and Ness Streets.
