Work is underway to reduce the avalanche risk in Milford Sound

Work is underway to reduce the avalanche risk in Milford Sound

The road connection to one of New Zealand's top tourist attractions from Te Anau to the Sound has faced several closures in recent days due to snow and avalanche risk.

Milford Road Alliance Manager, Kevin Thompson says in such an extreme environment, road maintenance work is critically important for the region and New Zealand's tourism.

He says their annual avalanche programme is internationally recognised and the responsibility to keep visitors safe is taken very seriously.
