Chris Luxon is defending Fonterra farmers, who've faced a scathing critique from Winston Peters

Chris Luxon is defending Fonterra farmers, who've faced a scathing critique from Winston Peters

Peters says farmers who voted to sell off Anchor and Mainland to French dairy giant Lactalis have chosen an "outrageously short-sighted sugar hit" and "economic self-sabotage".

He says their decision is "utter madness" and "gives away New Zealand's value".

Speaking to Newstalk ZB in South Korea this morning, Luxon says what politicians think about this deal is irrelevant, as it's a decision for farmers.

He personally thinks the deal is positive, but farmers are astute business people and they're sick of politicians telling them what to do.
