    Olympic year has dawned, but New Zealand 1500-metre hope Sam Tanner's got another title he's chasing


    He's keen to break Sir John Walker's mile record of three minutes, 49.08 seconds set in 1982.

    The 23-year-old's currently 0.43 of a second shy.

    Tanner will have his first opportunity at the Cooks Classic on January 27 in Whanganui.
