    New Zealand road champion Ally Wollaston has won the opening stage at Australian cycling's Tour Down Under in South Australia and is the first overall leader


    Wollaston, riding for her AG Insurance team, tore past Australian Georgia Baker to win the 93.9km opening stage from Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills to suburban Campbelltown.

    Blistering heat arrived for the start of the race, with the temperature nudging 40 degrees.

    Back on this side of the Tasman, national team cyclist Aaron Gate has won the third stage of the New Zealand Cycle Classic in Wairarapa to retain the leader's yellow jersey.
