    Taupo's mayor says today's fatal crash is the community's biggest road tragedy in some time


    Five members of the same family have been killed after a car slammed into a tree south of Kinleith this morning.

    Senior Sergeant Fane Troy has confirmed they were travelling west on Tirohanga Rd just before 8am.

    David Trewavas says it's 'truly tragic'.

    He says Tirohanga road is reasonably good road and what's happened this morning is devastating for the local community.
