Upper Hutt's mayor says he's shocked and saddened that a child's died after playing at a local park

Emergency services were called to the playground at Harcourt Park yesterday morning, where the child was found critically injured.

They were taken to a nearby medical centre but died shortly after.

Wayne Guppy says his thoughts and prayers are with the family after this tragic accident.

He says they'll do everything to assist police with their enquiries.
