Queenstown Lakes District Council says it can't keep relying on tourism

It's announced a new 75 thousand dollar district-wide economic diversification programme, focused on building new businesses across a range of sectors.

Economic development manager Peter Harris says that would put Queenstown in a better position if something like the pandemic was to hit again.

He says having a wider range of jobs and businesses in the district would spread the risk.
