    Civil Defense says people should still be vigilant ... after a false alarm in the Bay of Plenty caused residents to flee supposed disaster


    Fire and Emergency emergency sirens went off in error - sending hundreds heading for higher ground.

    Bay of Plenty Director of emergency management Clinton Naude says this isn't a 'cry wolf' scenario.

    He says it should be a reminder that emergencies can happen at any time.
