A former landlord could have her house seized, after failing to pay back bond money to tenants

A former landlord could have her house seized, after failing to pay back bond money to tenants

Widharni Iskander -- also known as Debbie -- was found guilty last May of failing to lodge bonds on 81 occasions.

She was fined 180 thousand dollars -- one of the largest fines on record.

Iskander claims she's paid back two-thirds of the 119 thousand dollars in bond money owed to tenants, but on an informal cash basis rather than through the Tenancy Bond Centre.

She says she's been unable to find the other tenants, and some have died.

However, an MBIE spokesperson says no payments have been received to date and it's still in the process of recovering the money.
