Forestry appears to have weathered the covid storm

Forestry appears to have weathered the covid storm

The sector was hit hard by China's shutdown earlier this year.

At one stage, forestry prices were down nearly 30 per cent in US dollar terms -- now they're slightly above the prices seen before the pandemic.

ASB Chief Economist Nick Tuffley says it's encouraging to see the sector bounce back so strongly.

He says it comes down to China, whose economy is growing very strongly since coming out of their lockdown.
