A bank has told a Dunedin mother she can only get a mortgage if she returns to work within 90 days of giving birth

A bank has told a Dunedin mother she can only get a mortgage if she returns to work within 90 days of giving birth

The Otago Daily Times reports ANZ told her mortgage broker it had changed its policy on maternity leave for borrowers.

New changes have just kicked in to the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act.

The woman and her partner wanted to refinance their home - and she planned a year's maternity leave.

An ANZ spokesperson told the ODT there had been no policy change, but it was taking into account likely income changes when assessing affordability.
