An Auckland businessman has been jailed for more than six years, after funding his lavish lifestyle with his clients' money

Steven Robertson operated various companies between 2009 and 2015, which the Financial Markets Authority called a 10 million dollar Ponzi scheme.

He bought expensive cars, private helicopter trips, weekend getaways, overseas holidays and jewellery.

Robertson was found guilty in August of 23 charges of theft by a person in a special relationship, obtaining by deception and dishonestly using a document.
