Auckland rail repair work is on track to be completed by the end of the year

Auckland rail repair work is on track to be completed by the end of the year

KiwiRail, Auckland Transport, TransDev and the Transport Agency have carried out walking inspections of the 200-kilometre network.

A total of 34 faults were found - 20 of which were able to be repaired immediately.

NZTA rail safety manager Ray McMillan says the network's been worn down by increased usage, so it's taken some time to get it up to scratch.

He says increased services have put pressure on KiwiRail which has meant they weren't able to maintain the system as well as they should.
