Concerns the Government could be doing more to protect the environment from tourism pressures

Concerns the Government could be doing more to protect the environment from tourism pressures

Last year, it raised the international visitor levy from 35-dollars to 100, to help maintain facilities and the natural environment.

Massey University International Development Professor, Regina Scheyvens says the intention was to split those funds 50:50, between tourism and conservation.

She says the Department of Conservation is only receiving about 20-percent of the increased funds, not their full share.
