The Broncos will play the winner of this Saturday's Panthers-Bulldogs match in Brisbane on September 28 at 4pm local time.
The first preliminary final will be held in Melbourne between the Storm and the Raiders or Sharks next Friday night, giving the winner an extra two days to prepare for the decider.
The NRL claim they've made the move on the back of a ratings winner last Sunday when Brisbane beat Canberra in golden-point extra time.
A clash with the AFL grand final is also avoided, as is the first Bledisloe Cup rugby test between the All Blacks and Wallabies.
