The NRL league clubs have reportedly backed the governing body to impose any sanctions on players who defect to the new R360 rugby union competition

The NRL league clubs have reportedly backed the governing body to impose any sanctions on players who defect to the new R360 rugby union competition

The Sydney Morning Herald reports NRL boss Andrew Abdo spoke to club CEOs over the phone this morning, allaying any fears over a potential talent raid.

It's unclear whether the NRL has the legal right to ban defecting players from returning, but the code will look to explore all possible protective measures.

Earlier this week, eight rugby union nations - including New Zealand - issued a joint statement warning any players who join R360 will be ineligible for international selection.
