Kiwi Supercars driver Ryan Wood's taken pole position for today's opening race of the Sandown 500

Kiwi Supercars driver Ryan Wood's taken pole position for today's opening race of the Sandown 500

He topped the timesheets in qualifying then confirmed his provisional pole in the Top 10 shootout, in an all-Walkinshaw Andretti United front row with Aussie teammate Chaz Mostert.

It's Wood's third pole position of his career and this year ... he told Sky Sport he's keen to convert it into a W.

The only other New Zealander, Matthew Payne, climbed a couple of places to sixth in the shootout.

The chequered flag for Race 30 drops at 5.20pm.
