Wellington's mayor has signed up to supporting an inquiry into the capital's water problems

Wellington's mayor has signed up to supporting an inquiry into the capital's water problems

The push for an investigation is being led by Councillor Fleur Fitzsimons, who wants Wellington Water's operations put under the microscope.

The city is struggling to deal with two major wastewater failures and a string of burst water mains.

Twelve councillors have now signed a notice of motion for an inquiry, including Mayor Andy Foster and Deputy Mayor Sarah Free.

Meanwhile, it's understood a mayoral task force is also being mooted as the city council moves into damage control.
