Changes to the Tenancy Act could drive rent prices even higher and increase homelessness

Changes to the Tenancy Act could drive rent prices even higher and increase homelessness

The Residential Tenancies Amendment Bill passed its first reading at Parliament yesterday and is progressing to the select committee stage.

It proposes a ban on rental bidding, limiting rent increases to just once a year, and ending no-cause evictions.

Property Investors Federation chief executive Andrew King says the changes would make it too hard for landlords.

He says they'd make it even more expensive to provide rental properties, so rent prices would go up.
