Farmer calls to dump the Government's winter grazing rules, are growing in Southland

Farmer calls to dump the Government's winter grazing rules, are growing in Southland

A Southern Advisory Group recommended in December that national freshwater standard rules - for cow hoof marks in paddocks and re-sowing dates - should be removed.

DairyNZ chairman Jim van der Poel says the group's more practical ideas focus on critically wet parts of farms - and they're still waiting for the Government to support them.

He says the Government doesn't appear to be purposefully dragging its feet on a decision, but farmers still need direction so they can get on with their lives.
