A Northland Iwi says it's been left in the dark on plans for the region's Covid-19 border

A Northland Iwi says it's been left in the dark on plans for the region's Covid-19 border

Police have confirmed they will maintain checkpoints for cars crossing into Northland, after Auckland's border opens on December 15.

Travellers will need to ensure they have a Covid Pass or proof of a negative test result if they want to get through.

Police say they are working closely with Iwi around these plans - and have made this decision with Iwi support.

But Ngati Whatua Chief Operations Officer Antony Thompson says they don't know what the plans are.

He says their main interactions are with Waitemata and Northland Policing Districts at an operation level.

Thompson says at a higher level, they've only ever had one conversation and it was short lived.
