    Only eight days remain for firearms owners to hand in prohibited firearms and parts


    Police says thousands have taken part in the amnesty and buy-back scheme - with more than 47 thousand firearms and 170 thousand parts handed in so far.

    They say they're aware of people still intending to modify firearms - and others wanting to apply for compensation.

    Those people must advice Police of those intentions before December 20.
