The Prime Minister's striking a sympathetic tone, over calls to allow businesses to better utilise spending on investments

The Prime Minister's striking a sympathetic tone, over calls to allow businesses to better utilise spending on investments

Pressure's mounting for the Government to allow full expensing of businesses capital expenditure -- that is, allowing companies to write off spending on things like plant equipment as a business expense.

This would require changes to tax law -- but would incentivise businesses to spend more on equipment and worry less about deprecation.

Chris Luxon says it's something he's open to.

He says the idea isn't an unattractive one -- as, when looking at the small businesses in New Zealand, the top 10-percent are seven times more productive than the bottom 10-percent.
