The Greens won't be contesting the upcoming byelection in the Maori seat of Tamaki Makaurau

The Greens won't be contesting the upcoming byelection in the Maori seat of Tamaki Makaurau

Party co-leader Marama Davidson says the decision was made as they're looking to save money ahead of next year's election.

The Greens not contesting means the battle for the seat is essentially a drag race between Labour and Te Pati Maori.

Labour has yet to select its candidate for the byelection - but it's likely they will select former Tamaki Makaurau MP Penne Henare.

Meanwhile, Te Pati Maori has selected former broadcaster Oriini Kaipara as its candidate.
