New Zealand's supermarkets are taking a different approach to the sale of high strength beers

New Zealand's supermarkets are taking a different approach to the sale of high strength beers

The products are being sold as singles in supermarkets and liquor stores, and are stronger than RTDs, ranging from seven to 16 percent.

Communities Against Alcohol Harm have been raising the issue of the beers at a number of public hearings, including involving Woolworths Mangere East and Pak'n Save Manukau.

A Woolworths spokesperson says nationwide they've removed all mainstream high-strength beer single cans and are only selling it in multi-packs.

A Foodstuffs spokesperson says they continue to monitor their range carefully, taking into account legal obligations, customer demand, and community feedback.
