Health New Zealand Te Toka Tumai says it's prepared for any potential increase in birth numbers - following the closure of a Central Auckland birthing service

Health New Zealand Te Toka Tumai says it's prepared for any potential increase in birth numbers - following the closure of a Central Auckland birthing service

Birthcare Parnell is closing all three of its birthing suites - to focus solely on postnatal care.

Te Toka Tumai Director of Midwifery Deb Pittam says there will still be a range of birthing options available to expectant parents.

She says the district has sufficient birthing pools for those requesting them and it will monitor their demand.

Pittam says the district is also working to ensure there's a space designed for primary birthing - and staffed with midwives.
