Experts says they want more support for those suffering from sepsis

Experts says they want more support for those suffering from sepsis

A paper in the latest New Zealand Medical Journal reports death rates in the year following a sepsis diagnosis are higher for Maori and those in socio-economic deprived areas.

Co-author Sharla McTavish says there needs to be more targeted care for those in high risk groups.

She says treatment can't just end once patients leave the hospital.

McTavish says the study suggests wraparound care for sepsis survivors is essential.
