A dangerous prisoner's on the loose after escaping from Hamilton Police

Police are appealing for sightings of 24-year-old William Merrin -- who was last seen at the Hamilton Police Station on Anzac Parade just before 3pm.

He is dangerous and should not be approached by the public.

He has links to Hamilton and Te Awamutu and was last seen wearing shorts and a black Adidas top.

He's described as 180cm tall, of slight build and with distinctive tattoos above his right eye and on his left cheek.
