Name suppression for the man charged with murdering a Christchurch woman, as she walked home from work on Saturday afternoon

Name suppression for the man charged with murdering a Christchurch woman, as she walked home from work on Saturday afternoon

The 37 year-old appeared in Christchurch District Court via video link, facing a single charge of murder.

Police say the man did not know his victim...Laisa Maraia Waka ...who was in her 50s.

She leaves a partner and children.

Judge Mark Callaghan granted interim name suppression and called for a report to assess the man's mental fitness to stand trial.
