Police say they are continuing to fight gangs amid an increase in numbers

Police say they are continuing to fight gangs amid an increase in numbers

The National Gang List has grown past 10-thousand for the first time.

Assistant Police Commissioner Paul Basham says part of the increase may be because of more intelligence about the gangs.

He says they're making great inroads into taking on gangs since new legislation was introduced.

Basham says they've executed 600 warrants, seized 100 firearms and are keeping prosecution rates in the high 90s.
